Because of the great altitude, it’s a good starting point for the final part of the Triglav tours. It offers a spectacular view to the north and south, and also looks on the top part of the Triglav climb, so visitors can often observe hikers as they make their final steps towards the peak.

Kredarica is also the highest meteorological station in Slovenia and 2 meteorologists are there at all times, even during the winter. The lodge is officially closed in the wintertime, but even then the weathermen will welcome you with open arms and offer you something to eat. In the winter, Kredarica is a popular destination for tour skiing, while a winter ascent of Triglav summit is only reserved for the most experienced mountaineers and can only be done in the right conditions. The lodge can accommodate almost 350 people and has 300 seats in its dining rooms and in front of the lodge.

Dom Planika https://huttohuthikingslovenia.com/mountain-huts/dom-planika/ Tue, 19 Oct 2021 17:19:53 +0000 http://huttohuthikingslovenia.com/mountain-huts/dom-planika/ Continued]]> Planika is a smaller, more authentic alternative to the lodge at Kredarica, which is situated a bit higher on Triglav’s mountainside. Planika’s name comes from the Slovene name for Edelweiss, the flower that is a symbol of mountaineering and the beauty of the Alps. The lodge is located a bit lower on Triglav’s mountainside than Kredarica but it’s only an hour’s hike to get from one lodge to the other.

Planika has the advantage of offering two possible routes for the final push to Triglav’s peak, which can be very convenient if you wish to pick a path that is less crowded with hikers – Triglav is a very popular mountain after all. Apart from good food, you can also find comfortable rooms at the Planika, you just have to reserve them early enough. The hut is situated on Triglav’s south face and you can easily reach Kredarica or Dolič from here. The lodge can accommodate around 120 people and has 80 seats in its dining rooms and in front of the lodge.

Koča na Doliču https://huttohuthikingslovenia.com/mountain-huts/koca-na-dolicu/ Tue, 19 Oct 2021 17:25:02 +0000 http://huttohuthikingslovenia.com/mountain-huts/koca-na-dolicu/ Continued]]> Apart from Planika and Kredarica lodges, you can also choose the Dolič Mountain Hut as your resting spot when climbing Triglav. It stands on Triglav’s west side, so it comes in handy if you begin your climb west of Triglav, at the Valley of the Triglav Lakes or Trenta. Like Planika, this is also a small and very authentic mountain hut.

In the winter of 2009, this lodge was severely damaged by an avalanche, but the members of the local mountain society had restored it shortly thereafter. The lodge can accommodate 70 people and has 80 seats in its dining rooms and in front of the lodge.

Vodnikov Dom na Velem Polju https://huttohuthikingslovenia.com/mountain-huts/vodnikov-dom-na-velem-polju/ Tue, 19 Oct 2021 17:28:56 +0000 http://huttohuthikingslovenia.com/mountain-huts/vodnikov-dom-na-velem-polju/ Continued]]> The main advantage of the Vodnik Lodge is its location – it is situated at the crossroads of routes that lead to Pokljuka, Krma, Bohinj, Dolič, and Planika, so it’s truly a great starting point for a hiking adventure. The lodge was built at the end of the 19th century and was named after the Slovenian Enlightenment poet Valentin Vodnik, to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of his ascent of Small Triglav.

The lodge has its own drinking water source and is a great Alpine post where you can rest and get something to eat when hiking to or from cabins that lie higher up in the mountains. It’s also a good stopping point to spend the night on hut to hut tours. The lodge can accommodate 70 people and has 50 seats in its dining rooms and in front of the lodge.

Koča pri Triglavskih Jezerih https://huttohuthikingslovenia.com/mountain-huts/koca-pri-triglavskih-jezerih/ Tue, 19 Oct 2021 17:32:46 +0000 http://huttohuthikingslovenia.com/mountain-huts/koca-pri-triglavskih-jezerih/ Continued]]> This lodge probably takes first place when it comes to idyllic locations. It stands next to the Double Lake, which is one of the seven Triglav Lakes in the Alpine glacial valley dubbed The Valley of the Triglav Lakes or the Seven Lakes Valley. This lake is called the Double Lake because it is divided into two parts when the water level drops. Some of the most beautiful tours in the Julian Alps pass by this hut – one-day Seven lakes hike or multi-day hut to hut hike.

Due to the beauty of the natural surroundings, the lodge is a very popular destination in its own right, especially for families, but it also serves as a good starting point for ascends on higher peaks. The lodge can accommodate 200 people and has 150 seats in its dining rooms and in front of the lodge.

Zasavska Koča na Prehodavcih https://huttohuthikingslovenia.com/mountain-huts/zasavska-koca-na-prehodavcih/ Tue, 19 Oct 2021 17:41:28 +0000 http://huttohuthikingslovenia.com/mountain-huts/zasavska-koca-na-prehodavcih/ Continued]]> This is one of the more authentic Slovenian mountain lodges, and it is surrounded by incredible views in all directions. It’s located at the halfway point between the Triglav Lakes Lodge and the Dolič Mountain Hut, and it’s also a very convenient resting spot for hikers coming from Trenta. We stop at the Prehodavci hut on our Triglav hut to hut tour.

The mighty Kanjavec mountain lies between the Zasavje Lodge and Dolič. We can drive around this peak across the Hribarica mountain pass on the south or the Kanjavec Northern Ledges (Kanjavčeve police) which is one of the most exposed paths in our mountains. This path is named Pot Mire Marko Debelakove, after a leading Slovenian female mountaineer, and is only appropriate for the most experienced and skilled hikers. But the climb on Kanjavec is quite the opposite, as the peak can be reached by one of the least demanding routes you can find in Slovenian mountains, at least at this altitude. The only thing to remember is to plan your hike in nice weather – you really don’t want to get caught in the fog. The lodge can accommodate 40 people and has 40 seats in its dining room and in front of the lodge.

Pogačnikov Dom na Kriških Podih https://huttohuthikingslovenia.com/mountain-huts/pogacnikov-dom-na-kriskih-podih/ Tue, 19 Oct 2021 17:46:18 +0000 http://huttohuthikingslovenia.com/mountain-huts/pogacnikov-dom-na-kriskih-podih/ Continued]]> The Pogačnik’s Lodge on Kriški Podi is an extremely popular cottage in an amazing location as it is surrounded by emerald high mountain lakes.

You can continue to Stenar, Križ, Bovški Gamsovec from this lodge. You can also pick the demanding route across Razor and Prisojnik that leads to Vršič. The mountain pass Luknja lies between this path and Triglav, and a technically demanding protected climbing path called Bambergova pot crosses it. So there are definitely some satisfying challenges that advanced mountaineers can bite into if they begin their hike at Pogačnik’s Lodge. Pogačnikov dom is often our choice on our custom hut-to-hut tours.

The lodge can accommodate 60 people and has 45 seats in its dining room and in front of the lodge.

Bregarjevo Zavetišče na Planini Viševnik https://huttohuthikingslovenia.com/mountain-huts/bregarjevo-zavetisce-na-planini-visevnik/ Tue, 19 Oct 2021 17:50:16 +0000 http://huttohuthikingslovenia.com/mountain-huts/bregarjevo-zavetisce-na-planini-visevnik/ Continued]]> This is a small but incredibly authentic Alpine post located on the high mountain pasture Viševnik. This is one of the most beautiful mountain pastures in Slovenia, and the shepherds’ cottages that are scattered across it offer a genuine look into the everyday lives of shepherds that have been spending their summers here since as early as the 18th century.

The hut itself is a repurposed building that used to be a cheese dairy. It is named after the mountaineer Drago Bregar, who was the first Slovenian to die in the Himalayan mountains. This quaint cottage has 15 beds and a very friendly keeper who will be glad to offer you something to drink if you stop by.

Zavetišče Draga Bregarja stands a bit off the beaten path, and we sometimes make a detour to say hello to the caretaker on our Seven lakes 1-day hike.

Dom na Komni https://huttohuthikingslovenia.com/mountain-huts/dom-na-komni/ Fri, 05 Nov 2021 11:24:28 +0000 http://huttohuthikingslovenia.com/mountain-huts/dom-na-komni/ Continued]]> The Komna Hut stands on the scenic eastern edge of the Komna plateau, which rises steeply on the western side of the Bohinj Valley. What makes it so attractive is its location at the crossroads of many routes around the Julian Alps. In winter, it is also a popular hub for ski-touring, as it’s open all year round and the plateau surrounding it is the perfect environment for that sport. The view at the hut is not only of the Bohinj lake, but also the Lower Bohinj mountains, the wavy plateau of Komna and the peaks surrounding the Triglav Lakes Valley, including Triglav itself.

Although the hut is already the final destination for many hikers coming from Bohinj, you can also go further to the Krn lake, the Hut at the Triglav lakes, or to Hut under Bogatin, which is just 15 minutes ahead on the plateau.

Dom Klementa Juga v Lepeni https://huttohuthikingslovenia.com/mountain-huts/dom-klementa-juga-v-lepeni/ Wed, 10 Nov 2021 15:13:26 +0000 http://huttohuthikingslovenia.com/mountain-huts/dom-klementa-juga-v-lepeni/ Continued]]> Located at the end of the glacial valley of Lepena, Klemen Jug’s Lodge in Lepena is an important starting point on the Krn mountain group of the Julian Alps, and the best one to hike to the biggest Slovenian mountain lake, the Krn lake.

It is named after Klement Jug (1898-1924), a Slovenian alpinist, philosopher and author of many important mountain-themed works of literature. It was restructured from a former Italian military outpost in 1953 and has been renovated and improved a lot of times since. It’s able to accommodate 40 people in its rooms and 40 people in the dining room.

While most people that start here go to the lake, some people continue to the peak from which the lake gets its name, Krn (2244 m). You can also go hiking across the Komna plateau to the Komna Hut and descend to Lake Bohinj, the largest permanent lake in the country.
